What is the syllabus for JEE?

COMMENTS

The syllabus for JEE is based on the Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT curriculum for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and is divided into two exams: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. While the JEE Main syllabus is almost completely aligned with NCERT topics, JEE Advanced may include slightly more depth and conceptual application, although no extra topics are officially added. Aspirants preparing for JEE 2026 must stay updated through the official websites — jeemain.nta.ac.in and jeeadv.ac.in — as slight changes or reductions in syllabus can be announced each year.

In Physics, key Class 11 topics include units and measurements, laws of motion, work-energy-power, rotational motion, thermodynamics, and waves. Class 12 topics include electrostatics, current electricity, magnetism, electromagnetic induction, AC circuits, ray optics, wave optics, and modern physics. For Chemistry, the Class 11 syllabus covers basic concepts of chemistry, atomic structure, chemical bonding, states of matter, thermodynamics, equilibrium, redox reactions, and hydrocarbons. Class 12 topics include solid state, solutions, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics, surface chemistry, coordination compounds, organic compounds containing nitrogen, biomolecules, polymers, and everyday chemistry. In Mathematics, Class 11 includes sets, relations, functions, trigonometry, complex numbers, sequences and series, straight lines, and probability. Class 12 covers limits, continuity, differentiation, integration, matrices, determinants, vectors, 3D geometry, probability, and differential equations.

Understanding the official syllabus helps students create a structured study plan, avoid irrelevant topics, and concentrate on high-weightage chapters. Aspirants are also advised to cross-check the latest syllabus and exam guidelines when registrations open, as official notifications may include slight modifications each year.
