The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the National Testing Agency (NTA) to publish the results of all candidates who took the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test undergraduate exam (NEET-UG) for the year 2024 on July 20 by noon.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud however said that the marks should be published without revealing the identity of the candidates.
Earlier, the Bench also comprising Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra had underscored that the fact that the sanctity of the exam was compromised was “beyond question”. It however, maintained that the decision to cancel the exam in its entirety would be an “extreme last resort” as it affected the lives of over 23 lakh students.

According to media reports, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2024 in a hybrid format to assist students in rural areas. The CUET will include both pen-and-paper tests and computer-based tests (CBT), allowing students in remote regions to take the exam closer to their homes. Subjects with more registrations will have multiple-choice questions in the pen-and-paper format for easier accessibility. Local schools and colleges will serve as exam centers.
The CUET UG 2024 will be held from May 15 to May 31 in three shifts: 9 AM to 11 AM, 12:30 PM to 2 PM, and 4 PM to 5:30 PM. The number of subjects will be reduced from ten to six to manage technical challenges, particularly in releasing the answer key on time.
UGC Chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar highlighted the importance of adapting to changes in education and ensuring a positive exam experience. The move to a hybrid mode and reduction in subjects aim to address practical challenges while maintaining the significance of CUET UG 2024.
Previously, the NTA Director General mentioned that reducing the subjects from ten to six is sufficient for undergraduate admissions. Students are advised to focus on five to six key subjects related to their chosen programs. The syllabi for domains and languages will align with the rationalized curriculum. With better logistics and planning, the exam is expected to be conducted within approximately 15 days.
In the recent JEE Main 2024 exam, 23 students got the highest score possible, but none of them were girls. Dwija Dharmeshkumar Patel from Gujarat topped among state candidates with a score of 99.99. Telangana had the most students with the highest score (7), followed by Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan, each with three. Delhi and Haryana had 2 top scorers, while Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Karnataka had one each.
This year, over 12 million students registered for the JEE Main exam, with about 11.7 million actually taking it.
Last year, 43 students achieved the highest score, with only one girl from Karnataka. Most were from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Rajasthan, with smaller numbers from other states.
For general category candidates, the cutoff score for JEE Advanced was 90.77 in 2023, up from previous years.
To make sure the JEE Main results are fair, the National Testing Agency uses a process called normalization. This adjusts scores based on the difficulty of the exam across different sessions, so all students have an equal chance.
