BREAKING: NEET UG 2026 OFFICIALLY CANCELLED

May 3, 2026 exam scrapped due to paper leak | Re-exam confirmed: June 21, 2026 | 22+ lakh students affected

What Happened? — The Complete Story

The National Testing Agency (NTA) officially cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination held on May 3, 2026. The cancellation came after serious allegations of a paper leak surfaced from multiple states, forcing the Government of India to intervene. On May 12, 2026, NTA issued a public notice confirming the cancellation, affecting over 22.79 lakh medical aspirants across the country.

How the Paper Leak Was Discovered

A document containing approximately 100 to 140 questions — many of which reportedly matched the actual exam paper — had been circulating on WhatsApp and Telegram groups days before the May 3 exam. Initial investigations by the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) led to arrests in multiple states. The Government of India subsequently handed the entire case over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a comprehensive probe.

CBI Investigation — Key Arrests So Far

  • Manisha Sanjay Waghmare — arrested May 14, 2026; allegedly linked to an NTA source
  • P.V. Kulkarni (chemistry lecturer) — arrested May 15, 2026
  • Shubham Khairnar — allegedly obtained the paper via a Pune-based contact connected to an NTA insider
  • Further arrests made in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and other states
  • CBI probe points to a nexus of coaching centre insiders, middlemen, and possible leaks from within NTA itself

The leaked paper was allegedly sold for Rs. 30–50 lakh per candidate through underground networks — reflecting a highly organised criminal ecosystem around high-stakes entrance examinations.
