JEE Main Introduction

The JEE Main exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate
engineering courses in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs),
and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs).

 

The eligibility criteria for appearing in the JEE Main exam are as follows:

-- Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as subjects from a recognized board.

-- Candidates who are appearing in their 10+2 final year examination are also eligible to apply.

-- There is no age limit for appearing in the JEE Main exam.

Overview of JEE Main Exam Pattern

The JEE Main Exam Pattern will give you an overview of the types of questions asked, distribution of marks, duration and mode of the exam. The exam is conducted in two parts - Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech aspirants and Paper 2 for B.Arch/B.Planning aspirants. You can appear for both the papers or either one of them, as per your choice and eligibility criteria.

Paper 1: The Paper 1 of JEE Main is for candidates who wish to get admission into engineering courses offered by NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and other institutes participating through JoSAA Counselling (except IITs). It consists of 90 objective type multiple choice questions from Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics with equal weightage given to each subject. Each correct answer fetches 4 marks while each incorrect answer attracts a deduction of 1 mark (negative marking).

Paper 2: The Paper 2 is only for candidates seeking admission into Architecture/Planning Courses at NITs, IIITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions participating through JoSAA Counselling (except IITS). It has two sections - Aptitude Test & Drawing Test.

The Aptitude Test has 50 objective type multiple choice questions from Mathematics – Part I and General Aptitude – Part II. Each correct answer fetches 4 marks while each incorrect answer attracts a deduction of 1 mark (negative marking).

The Drawing Test is to assess the drawing and sketching skills of the candidates. It has 2 questions for 100 marks. Candidates have to attempt any one question out of the two.
